Dress Requirements and Recommendations

Dance Theatre Fairbanks Spring 2024 Dress Code and Recommendations
ALL dancers must be dressed according to dress code to participate in class.  Dancers will be given one dress code warning, then be asked to leave class if not dressed appropriately.

Creative Movement, Primary Ballet:Ladies: Pink or black leotard, pink tights and pink ballet shoes (canvas or leather, not satin slipper type from Walmart). Hair pulled securely off face. NO skirts or tutus. Costumes of any type should be left at home please.
Gentlemen :White t-shirt, black jazz or athletic pants/tights/or fitted athletic shorts that allow for flexible movement. Black canvas split sole ballet shoes. Hair out of face and secured if necessary.

Primary Tap/Jazz: Jazz pants/capris/shorts with tank tops/tees. Can also wear a leotard (see dress code for Creative Movement/Primary Ballet).  Hair should be pulled securely off face.  Black tap shoes and Black Jazz shoes.  If your child can not tie their shoes, please secure with elasic ties to allow them to change shoes independently.

Ballet 1, 2 and 3: Ladies: Black leotard, full length pink tights and pink canvas split sole ballet shoes. Hair pulled securely off face in a bun and secured with a hair net and bobby pins. No scrunchies. No skirts. Warm ups are at the discretion of the instructor. NO visible bras.
Gentlemen : Fitted white t-shirt, black jazz pants/tights/or fitted athletic shorts that allow for flexible movement. Black canvas split sole ballet shoes. Hair out of face and secured if necessary.

Tap: Jazz pants/leggings/capris/shorts are recommended with t-shirt/tank/leotard. No jeans or jeggings. Hair pulled securely off  face. If your dancer cannot tie their own shoes, please use elastic shoe ties or buy slip on shoes. No Velcro strap shoes. *level II and above tap students should not have patent mary-jane style shoes. Flat-black slip-on or laced shoes only please.

Jazz: Fitted leggings/capris/shorts are required with
a snug-fitting t-shirt/tank/leotard. Jazz shoes or turners per instructor. Most dancers prefer the ease of slip-on style jazz shoes. No jeans or baggy clothing. Hair pulled securely off the face.

Lyrical/Contemporary: Full-length fitted leggings or Capris (due to the amount of floor work in these classes, Shorts are not appropriate) Snug fitting tanks/tees that allow full movement. Hair pulled securely off the face. NO jeans or baggy clothing. Barefoot or turners per instructor.

Hip-Hop: T-shirts or Hip-Hop attire will be permitted in this class only, with black hip-hop, or clean non-marking shoes at all levels (NO street shoes or running shoes. NO jeans. Hair pulled securely off the face.

Ensemble/NUVO/Dance Excellence: Black fitted leggings/capris/shorts are required with a black snug-fitting t-shirt/tank/leotard. No jeans or baggy clothing. Hair pulled securely off the face.

**Please NO artificial nails (they can affect the position of the hands and can scratch other dancers when working in groups.
**No jewelry allowed in any class.
**Dresses, costume pieces, or street clothes are not appropriate for classes.
